RegioJet trains start Komárno run

THE FIRST privately-owned passenger trains operating solely within Slovakia ran between Komárno and Bratislava on March 4. The operator of the trains is RegioJet, a subsidiary of the Czech Student Agency company. The TASR newswire reported that the private carrier will completely replace state-run passenger trains on this particular route.

“The trains will leave at hourly and half-hourly intervals,” said Árpád Érsek, a deputy minister at the Transport Ministry, as quoted by TASR.

Passengers will travel between the two cities in modern, air-conditioned trains made by Bombardier, a Canadian manufacturer.

The company hopes to transport 1.9 million passengers on this route each year, the SITA newswire reported.
