TEXTILES from scrapped cars need not end up at waste dumps. They can be re-processed and used as insulation construction materials. This is the core idea of a project to recycle synthetic materials to be launched in the village of Krajné in the Myjava district with support from the Environment Ministry, the TASR newswire wrote in mid June.
“So far textile components from scrap cars wound up buried in huge waste dumps or they were incinerated in special incineration plants,” Maroš Stano, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment told TASR. “The exceptional characteristics and the long service life of these textile materials were not further utilised.”
The project in Krajné will enable the reprocessing of textile materials from old cars into new products to be used in construction and transportation, thanks to a unique technology developed in cooperation with the Institution of Textile Technology in Bratislava and the Research Institute for Man-Made Fibres in Svit.
The final product has excellent heat insulation and sound-insulation characteristics.
