Retail sales in Slovakia (in current prices) increased 1% on an annualised basis to 37.1 billion Slovak crowns in August. Car and motorcycle sales and fuel sales were up 20% over last August. Retail companies reported a heathy 6.7% growth in sales as well.
However, retail sales of non-trading companies fell 11.3%, while hotels and restaurants saw sales figures plunge 36.8%, the Slovak Statistics Bureau reported on October 6.
August retail sales were down 0.5% from July, but eight months into 1999, retail sales were 7.5% higher than the same period in 1998.
