LUKÁŠ Diko, the new head of news at the public-service broadcaster Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS), has said he is unhappy with the TV ratings being achieved by the network’s news programmes. He added that the ratings for its radio news programmes were good, although there was still room for improvement, the SITA newswire reported.
Public TV has several problems, according to Diko, particularly with the image of its news. Diko ascribes the poor image to failed and protracted attempts at change, political intervention and other flaws.
“According to me, [the image of the TV news] is at an absolute low with regards to its ratings,” Diko said, adding that even though the content of TV news programmes at RTVS is not bad, people do not watch them because of the network’s poor image.
“This is probably the biggest task – to show viewers that the RTVS news deserves their trust and that it will be the highest quality source of information for them. But this is a gradual and long path.”
