IRISH low-cost airline Ryanair will open its first base in Slovakia, in Bratislava, next March. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary unveiled the company’s plans in Bratislava on November 13. Investments are planned at €160.6 million.
Ryanair will base two airplanes here, and 16 routes will operate from this base. A new to route will be launched: to Madrid. The new base should bring 60 flights weekly and one million passengers annually. O’Leary hopes that they could later extend the fleet with the third and fourth aircrafts and double the number of passengers to 2 million within five years, the SITA newswire wrote.
According to Ivan Trhlík, director general of the Letisko M. R. Štefánika in Bratislava, by opening the base, the airport gets definitively put on the aerial map of Europe, the TASR newswire wrote.
