THE SOUTH Korean company Samsung Electronics, which is building a production plant in Slovakia near Voderady, launched serial production of LCD modules on its new premises ahead of schedule, on January 7. It was planning to launch production in March 2008, the SITA newswire wrote.
Although two production lines of the new plant worked only in single-shift operation at the time of the production launch, around 400 employees have been working in the new plant in two shifts since January 14, the chief production manager Miroslav Lajčin told SITA. "From February we are launching a five-day work week in three shifts and from March we will be in non-stop seven-day operation," he said.
Although company managers were struggling with the problem of a lack of qualified operators for production lines last month, Lajčin said that about 650 employees of the new plant would ensure production of components for the Galanta-based Samsung plant and Sony Nitra beginning in March. "At the moment I can confirm that we will fill these posts," said Lajčin, who hand-picked most new employees during recruitment interviews in Trnava, Piešťany, Hlohovec, Sereď and other towns in Slovakia.
