SE plans tender for nuke decommissioning

SLOVAK POWER producer Slovenské Elektrárne is preparing a tender for the decommissioning of two nuclear reactors in the Soviet-era Bohunice nuclear power plant, located 65 kilometres northeast of Bratislava, in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

Both projects are to receive financing of up to 170 million euro for up ten years from the Bohunice International Decommissioning Support Fund (BIDSF), supervised by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Total costs for the projects are expected to reach Sk15 billion (350 million euro), including technical and socio-economic requirements. The European Commission is expected to provide an additional 150 million euro to the project, while the governments of Denmark, Austria, Ireland and the Netherlands have also promised future support for the fund.

Candidates in the tender are expected to provide a complete package of services, including project management, professional consultations, meeting safety requirements and creating projects for substitute energy sources.
