THE COMMISSION for privatisation of the state electricity generator Slovenské elektrárne (SE) has drawn up a list of parts of the company that may be retained by the state. Not one of the bidders for SE in the first round was interested in the company as a whole.

Bidders are thought to include French EDF, German E.ON and RWE, British International Power and British Energy, and Italian Enel.

Meanwhile, the utility reported profits of Sk1.6 billion (38 million euro) on sales of electricity abroad in 2002.

Analysts said the increase in revenues was due to rising electricity prices Europe-wide and efforts by the company to establish itself in foreign markets. Because of regulated pricing, SE sells electricity in the domestic market for less than half the prices it can get abroad.
