SES Tlmače general director Martin Paštika and Energoimport general director Rafael Ernesto Lage signed a contract based on which the SES Tlmače energy engineering company will build a 100 MWh unit at the Mariel thermal power plant 50 km from Havana. The volume of the contract is €90 million, the TASR newswire informed on February 8.
Works on engineering are planned to start immediately after signing the contract, while initial supplies of SES Tlmače to Cuba should be delivered in late 2016. The block should be completed in 2019.
“The scope of the supply is a complete block of the power station that will burn waste from crude oil, crudo,” said Paštika, adding that according to the Cuban side this is the biggest investment project in construction of energy sources in Cuba in the last 20 years.
For SES Tlmače, this project means linking-up to the successful modernization of Santa Cruz Power Plant with 100 MW output (about 40 km from Havana towards Varadero) where deliveries finished in 2006, the company writes on its website.
Over the last 15 years SES Tlmače has delivered €100 million in supplies to Cuba. Overall, SES Tlmače has been operating in Cuba for almost 40 years during which they have secured construction of 13 boilers that make up about 40 percent of the installed capacity in Cuban power stations, TASR wrote.
