In January, 3,587 new cars were sold in Slovakia. Of this number, commercial vehicles accounted for 309 units, down 57% from December 1998. Passenger car sales totaled 3,278 units, which was also a drop of 48.5% from December, the Automotive Industry Association revealed on February 16.
During the monitored period, Škoda sold a 1,573 units, giving the Czech carmaker a commanding 44% share of the market. Škoda was followed by Daewoo (555 units and 16%) and Volkswagen (353 units and 10%).
