SLOVAKIA is getting ready to privatise its two biggest airports, in Bratislava and Košice, next year. Transport
Minister Pavol Prokopovič has already held talks with managers from Austria's Schwechat Airport, who are
interested in investing in Bratislava's Milan Rastislav Stefánik Airport.
Peter Majkovič, head of the transformation department of the Slovak Airports Authority, says their privatisation,
approved by the cabinet, is on the right path.
The new law should be given teeth from November. After transforming the airports into state owned joint-stock
companies, an advisor for the selection of a strategic investor will be chosen, and finally, an international tender
will be announced.
