For the first eight months of 1997, total exports reached 195.33 billion Sk and increased by 13.2 percent p.a., the ŠÚSR announced. The highest growth was seen in exports to Germany, Poland (both by 29.6 percent) and to Austria (by 27.5 percent). The highest decline was seen in exports to the Czech Republic (by 3.7 percent) and to China (by 71.4 percent). The Czech Republic attracted the largest portion of Slovak exports (27 percent), followed by Germany (23.4 percent) and Austria (6.8 percent). Exports to EU states took a 45.5 percent bite of total exports, increasing by 25 percent year-to-year. Exports to OECD countries made up 85.8 percent of total Slovak exports, a year-on-year increase of 14.8 percent.
