WORKERS enjoyed the fastest wage increase since May 2006 in February. The year-on-year increase in wages accelerated from January's 8.1 percent to 9.8 percent in February, the ČTK newswire reported, quoting data published by the Slovak Statistics Office.
Average pay in the industrial sector in February was Sk20,589 per month, down from January's Sk20,877.
After inflation was taken into account, wages rose 5.6 percent year-on-year in February, compared to a 4.1 percent year-on-year increase in January.
Of the sectors monitored, postal services reported the highest growth in wages, up 23.7 percent year-on-year. Wages in telecommunications increased the least, up by only 2.6 percent. Nevertheless, telecommunication workers retained their traditional position as the best-paid industrial earners, with an average monthly salary of Sk51,878.
The number of industrial employees in Slovakia rose by 2.1 percent year-on-year to 597,068.
