Slovak IT companies drop in Deloitte ranking

THE LATEST Technology Fast 500 EMEA 2008 ranking by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu indicates that Slovakia is gradually falling behind in terms of fast-growing technology companies, the Sme daily reported in mid December.

The Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA program recognises technology companies that have achieved the fastest rates of annual revenue growth in Europe, the Middle East and Africa during the past five years.

While in 2004 the ranking of 500 companies included seven Slovak companies, in 2006 the number decreased to six. In 2007 the Slovak companies in the ranking numbered only four and in 2008 the Slovak presence shrank to only three.

InterWay, a company offering internet applications and related consultancy services, was placed 87th, followed by antivirus company Eset at 126th position. Millennium 000, a provider of comprehensive e-business solutions, was 331st.

Among Slovakia’s neighbours, Hungary had the biggest number of companies in the ranking, with 14.

From the Czech Republic as many as 11 companies managed to secure places in the ranking, the highest number since 2003. Poland had eight technology companies in the ranking.

British company Thunderhead topped the ranking, followed by Dutch company Albumprinter and another British firm, Ubisense.
