IBM is to become more involved in science and research at Slovak universities. It has given a grant of $25,000 to the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Matej Bel University (UMB) in Banská Bystrica, the TASR newswire reported.
The aim of the research is to propose ways of using cognitive systems and prepare educational activities and materials about the topic. The project will last for three years and will be carried out at the Crisis Management Centre, which is part of the UMB’s Department of Security Studies.
“Among the research topics are the application of cognitive analyses in cyberspace to predict and reveal real security threats, such as civic riots, manipulation of citizens etc.,” said Karol Fabián from the Department of Security Studies, as quoted by TASR.
The research will also investigate the use of advanced statistical algorithms, the analysis of social networks and the application of behaviour and content analysis using IBM’s Watson solutions, Fabián added.
Altogether nine UMB employees and PhD students will participate in the research, TASR wrote.
