Slovak women of the year 2013

ELIŠKA Kubíková, vice-dean of the Medical Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, has been named Slovak Woman of the Year for 2013. The poll to decide the award was organised by the Slovenka women’s weekly. Kubíková accepted her award at a ceremony held at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava on May 21, along with an award in the category of health care.

“I am very happy. Any ordinary person who is awarded for their work regards it with satisfaction,” Kubíková said, as quoted by the TASR newswire.


The winner in the art and culture category was visual artist Ivett Axamitová, who works mainly in ceramics. In the business and management section, Andrea Císarová, the head of the Centre for International Protection of Children and Youth, was recognised; in the charity category, the chairperson of the board of the Nadácia krajina harmónie / Country of Harmony Foundation Soňa Holúbková took home the award.

Archaeologist, historian and teacher Tatiana Štefanovičová was awarded in the category of science and research, and Professor Anna Zuzana Dubničková, of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics at Comenius University, for education and support of young talent. In the sport category, trap shooter Zuzana Štefečeková was acknowledged, as was TV and radio presenter Adela Banášová in the media and communication category. A special Slovenka award went to script-writer and director Zuzana Liová.


The poll was created in 2009 and is a continuation of the Man of the Year and Woman of the Year poll begun by Slovenka in 1990.
