Slovakia and US sign nuclear deal

ECONOMY Minister Juraj Miškov and the US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Francisco J. Sánchez, signed a declaration of cooperation between the two countries in the area of civilian use of nuclear energy on March 5. The signing ceremony was also attended by Theodore Sedgwick, the US ambassador to Slovakia, the TASR newswire reported.

“Today’s meeting and signing of the joint declaration means that Slovakia is a country which is undertaking real steps in the area of international cooperation in nuclear energy and the nuclear industry,” Miškov stated, as quoted by TASR.

The economy minister added that one of Slovakia’s top priorities is to guarantee its citizens secure and reliable energy at acceptable prices and that nuclear power plants are an inseparable part of a balanced mix of energy supplies.

Miškov added that nuclear power plants offer a stable and secure source of electrical energy and are environmentally and economically acceptable.
