Slovakia may get a fourth mobile operator

MARKET regulator Telecommunications Office (TÚ) will probably announce a tender for a fourth mobile operator by the end of this March. Its chairman, Branislav Máčaj, said during the Telecommunications in Slovakia 2008 conference on January 30 that the winner of the tender would receive the opportunity to provide services in the frequency band of 870-876/915-921 Mhz.

Máčaj assumes that the new operator would probably focus on the provision of mobile data services, but cannot rule out the possibility that candidates will take an interest in providing mobile voice services. He added that everything will depend in part on the technology chosen by the operator.

This offered frequency band is destined for mobile services ranging from voice to the internet, and the winner of the tender will compete directly with the already existing providers of telecommunication mobile services on the market.
