SLOVAKIA will present itself at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai as a country rich in historical monuments, natural beauty and people, according to an Economy Ministry presentation of the concept for the Slovak pavilion on May 4, the SITA newswire reported.
The World Expo will be held from May 1 to October 31, 2010. The draft of the artistic and technical design – which still needs to be endorsed by the Chinese side - is based on the main theme of the exposition - Better City, Better Life - and the theme chosen by the Slovak side, World for Humanity.
Because some 95 percent of the estimated 70 million visitors are expected to be Chinese, the designers of the Slovak pavilion focused on creating a topic comprehensible for the Chinese domestic audience, spokesperson Oľga Gáfriková told SITA.
The team which will be in charge of creating the Slovak exposition was selected in a public contest organised by the Economy Ministry. The jury chose EVKA, a Bratislava-based company, as the winner.
The Economy Ministry signed a contract with EVKA for a fixed price of €2,236,605 in April 2009.
The Slovak exposition will also feature a presentation about renowned architect and Banská Bystrica native Ladislav Hudec, who designed Asia’s first skyscraper, in Shanghai, as well as the city’s Grand Theatre, SITA wrote.
