Slovakia solves food-safety problems

SLOVAK Agriculture Minister Zsolt Simon would be very surprised if the EU imposed protective measures on foodstuffs and veterinary care upon EU accession, the TASR news wire wrote.

Although harshly criticised in this area in the past, Slovakia has made significant progress to rank among the best-prepared acceding countries, he said after holding technical talks with the European Commission (EC) in Brussels. Simon said that the EC agreed with Slovakia's schedule for the inspection and closure of food companies that are not meeting EU standards.
