Slovakia took a step towards the EU market when it cancelled customs for most food commodities imported from EU countries as of July.
Most Slovak food commodities can also be exported to EU countries without customs duty. However, the daily Hospodárske noviny suggests that several Slovak firms do not know that they can export their goods free of customs fees.
Chairman of the Slovak Food and Agricultural Chamber Ivan Oravec described the move as a significant step to liberalization of trade with EU. However, he still sees certain limits in forms of quotas that will be erased only after Slovakia's entry to EU.
