Lopatka will replace Dušan Muňko, who was sacked by the government in August. The reasons for Muňko’s dismissal were so serious that the Anti-Corruption Office will deal with the case, Prime Minister Iveta Radičová said. She mentioned grave legal violations in the economic performance of the social security provider.

Mihál fired Muňko after he allegedly failed to fulfil his duties arising from the post as defined by law. Mihál claimed that Muňko failed to meet 10 resolutions adopted by the supervision board and ignored tasks related to strategic goals, such as a higher collection rate for social insurance contributions.

Muňko was appointed to the post by the previous Robert Fico-led cabinet. In the June 12 parliamentary elections he was elected as an MP for Smer.
