THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS authority, the TÚ, stated that there is no effective competition on the fixed-line market for international calls in Slovakia.

In its analysis the authority said that the dominant operator, Slovak Telecom (ST), has a significant influence in this segment, the SITA news agency wrote.

The TÚ therefore proposed several duties for ST. The preliminary findings and the proposed duties are still subject to approval by the European Commission. Only then can the TÚ launch administrative proceedings against ST regarding its obligations.

The TÚ also stated that ST's economic influence enables it to behave independently of competitors and users to a great extent. For this reason the office suggested that ST be prohibited from charging inappropriately high prices for international calls.
