DOMINANT fixed-line operator Slovak Telecom (ST) and mobile operator Orange Slovensko are interested in providing universal service in Slovakia, which consists of providing public pay phones and telephone directories, the SITA news agency wrote.
ST, which currently provides universal service in Slovakia in line with provisional legal regulations, wants to provide the full extent of universal service. Orange Slovensko declared an interest in just part of the service, according to Telecommunications Office (TÚ) spokesman Roman Vavro.
The TÚ launched proceedings in August in order to pick an operator or operators, who would secure the universal service as defined by law. According to the law, no operator can be excluded from providing the universal service.
