SLOVAKIA will probably not manage to settle the problem of above-quota steel production by US Steel Košice (USSK) with the European Commission (EC) in the near future. It is possible that it will not be settled by the date of Slovakia's accession to the EU, said the legal adviser of the EC delegation to Slovakia, Radoslav Procházka, to the news agency SITA.
The root of the problem is in two agreements signed by the Slovak government, one with USSK and the other with the EC, which contradict each other. If the problem is not solved by May 1, the date of accession, Slovakia could face protective measures by the EC lasting up to three years.
