ALMOST 100 employees of the Metalurg Steel company based in Dubnica nad Váhom did not come to work on April 24 in protest against the company’s management as the company owes over €300,000 in wages to its employees, the SITA newswire reported.
The strike significantly hindered production at the plant, according to the head of the OZ KOVO union, Emil Machyna.
“These are mainly people from the production side; there are fewer technicians,” Machyna told SITA, explaining that production could not continue, something he said was a good way of putting pressure on the employer.
However, production continued in key divisions of the company despite the strike, according to the Metalurg Steel representative, Juraj Mác, as reported by SITA.
In an effort to get some of their due wages from the guarantee fund, a lawsuit has been filed to declare the company bankrupt.
Some employees did not participate in the strike.
“I’m worried about losing my job,” one of those who chose to work on April 24 told SITA.
