Telecom market keeps growing

THE TOTAL sales of Slovakia's telecommunications sector reached Sk53 billion (€1.4 billion) in 2004, which represented an annual growth of 10 percent.

According to the Pravda daily, mobile operators Orange Slovensko and EuroTel, and the fixed-line operator Slovak Telecom control 95 percent of the market.

Of this share, Orange enjoys 39 percent, Slovak Telecom 34 percent and EuroTel 27 percent.

Orange had 2.4 million customers last year, EuroTel 1.9 million and Slovak Telecom 1.4 million. That means that eight out of ten Slovaks have a mobile phone.

In total, 5.65 million people had a mobile phone or a fixed-line connection in 2004.

Orange also posted the highest sales of the three last year - Sk19.2 billion (€506 million). Slovak Telecom was second with Sk16.8 billion (€442 million) and EuroTel third with Sk13.3 billion (€350 million).
