The Slovak Railway Company (ZSSK) will boost railways during the Christmas holidays and around the New Year, the Sme daily wrote. Expecting an increased number of passengers in this season, it will send two special express trains from Bratislava through Žilina and Košice, and two in the opposite direction.
“ZSSK will also boost the busiest route with 35 selected Inter City (IC) trains; in total 75 second-class carriages, meaning 5,700 extra seats,” ZSSK spokesman Tomáš Kováč told Sme on December 18.
“Moreover, ZSSK will send 22 extra trains of various categories around Christmas, New Year and the Epiphany holidays,” he added.
All these trains and the seats in the extra carriages of the IC trains are included in the sale and booking system.
Special express trains
The R 11609 special express train (Bratislava Main Station 13:37 - Košice 19:41) will operate on December 22, 2017 and on January 5, 2018.
In the opposite direction, there will be the R 11610 special express train (Košice 14:25 – Bratislava Main Station 20:34) – on January 1, and January 7, 2018.
Both trains will have reserved 2nd class coaches.
“For their own travel comfort we recommend passengers to secure a seat on time – although most ZSSK trains do not have obligatory seat reservations,” board member and marketing manager of ZSSK, Karol Martinček, explained.
ZSSK also recommends passengers to use alternative purchase methods, like advance ticket sales and the internet, to avoid queues at ticket offices.
