If society in general, and the economy in particular, are to function properly, people also need to be in good health, both physically and mentally. There is no way around this.
However, each and every individual is different; each of us has a different starting line, background, needs, and more. Addressing these aspects on the part of employers can help achieve the full potential of people, who in turn can use the newfound purpose, energy, sense of security and belonging to substantially contribute.
Here we review three companies, the finalists of the Via Bona Award’s Outstanding Employer category, are doing in this regard.
Majolika R
Hand-made traditional pottery, called majolica, is known worldwide – it has even appeared in the Olympic Games. Founded by Renáta Hermysová, the Pezinok-based Majolika R company has operated for more than 30 years. However, in addition to preserving an aspect of Slovakia's cultural heritage, the company's goal is to integrate handicapped, vulnerable and disadvantaged people, and help them with their independence and skill development. Since 2011, Majolika R has operated as a Sheltered Workshop.
The Covid-19 pandemic hit the company hard, cutting off most of its revenues. That was when Hermysová decided to first open a food stand, then an outlet in the Nivy shopping mall in Bratislava called Sladká Bodka (Sweet Dot), offering both sweet and salty delicacies and dishes.
