The city council in western Slovakia's Trnava has launched preparations for an industrial park on 300 hectares of land originally offered to German car maker BMW for an assembly plant.
The town was one of a number of bids presented by Slovak municipalities to house a new factory for the German auto maker. Slovakia was ruled out of BMW's plans early this year.
Recently passed legislation on industrial parks sees municipalities footing only 30% of the bill for construction of infrastructure for industrial parks, and is expected to help promote the spread of more industrial parks across the country. Slovakia currently has only one industrial park in Vráble, 20 kilometres north of the western Slovak city of Nitra.
