Unemployment rate below 6 percent in November

Data from labour offices point to further decrease in unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate in Slovakia in November 2017 stood at 5.59 percent, down by 0.19 percentage points month-on-month and by 2.83 percentage points year-on-year, based on data from the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family (UPSVaR).

The number of jobseekers immediately able to start working was 162,087 in November, a decrease of 5,191 individuals m-o-m and 76,293 y-o-y, the TASR newswire reported.

The unemployment rate calculated from the total number of jobseekers reached 7.19 percent in November, down by 0.16 p.p. m-o-m and 3.05 p.p. y-o-y.

The total number of jobseekers stood at 196,055 in November, falling by 4,217 individuals m-o-m and 82,137 y-o-y.

As for individual regions, all eight Slovak regions recorded reductions in their unemployment rates in November, with the Banská Bystrica Region seeing the most significant drop.

"For the first time the unemployment rate has dropped below 6 percent and the total number of jobseekers has fallen under 200,000," Labour Minister Ján Richter commented on the data as quoted by TASR, adding that there is no region in Slovakia whose unemployment rate would exceed 10 percent.
