The winter unemployment rate in Slovakia decreased by 0.8 percentage points this year - from 11.8 percent in December 2006 to only 11 percent in January 2007. However, Slovakia still has the second highest level of unemployment in the EU, according to Eurostat, the EU statistical office. Poland has the highest level of unemployment at 12.6 percent. Slovakia can boast a remarkable year-on-year decrease in unemployment; in January 2006 it was recorded at 14.5 percent.
