Unemployment rate up in December

THE UNEMPLOYMENT rate in Slovakia at the end of December rose by 0.24 percentage points, month-on-month, to 12.46 percent, according to the Central Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family.

THE UNEMPLOYMENT rate in Slovakia at the end of December rose by 0.24 percentage points, month-on-month, to 12.46 percent, according to the Central Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family.

The registered unemployment rate fell 0.20 percentage points in December 2010 compared to December 2009. Slovakia’s labour offices registered 334,903 unemployed people who were willing and able to immediately take up jobs, the SITA newswire reported.

The overall number of jobless persons registered with labour offices, including those not immediately able to take up work, was 381,209 at the end of last year. This was a month-on-month increase of 6,928 persons and a year-on-year increase of 1,656.

The unemployment rate calculated from the overall number of registered jobless persons was 14.19 percent, having increased by 0.26 percentage points from the previous month while dropping by 0.13 percentage points from the unemployment rate in December 2009.
