Since the introduction of Viagra to Slovakia in April this year, 53,000 Viagra pills have been sold in Slovakia. The producer of the pill, Pfizer, estimates that 4,000 to 5,000 men have used Viagra in Slovakia, and that only one in ten men suffering from impotence visits a doctor. The price of one pill is 420 Slovak crowns ($10), and requires a doctor's prescription. The pills are not subsidised by the state. Ivan Kubiš, the Health Ministry's regional sexology expert in Banská Bystrica, said that 323 men with an average age of 55 years were undergoing Viagra treatment at the Diagnostic-Preventive Center in Banská Bystrica.

Kubiš reported that 70% of men with erectile problems had shown improvement after treatment with the drug.

Since the introduction of Viagra on the European market in September 1998, 27 million pills have been sold. Doctors prescribe about 10 million Viagra pills every month worldwide. Northern European countries, including Sweden, Norway and Finland, as well as Germany, France and Great Britain report the largest sales of Viagra.
