Volkswagen fourth among exporters

Volkswagen Bratislava (VW) Ltd., ranked fourth among the biggest Slovak exporters last year. The company made a pre-tax profit of 328.4 million Sk last year. Exports increased by 350 percent over 1994, from 3.7 billion Sk to 13.3 billion Sk. This year the company plans to produce goods worth 18 billion Sk. Of its total output, 96 percent will be exported. Investments worth 1 billion Sk will be spent on infrastructure, measuring devices, and quality control. Recently VW Bratislava opened a press room, and the products are supplied to Germany and to Škoda VW in the Czech Republic. The company has a design for a new waxing line. VW Bratislava is also interested in the utilization of new materials, mainly magnesium and aluminum, for the car industry, and for this purpose has built a company to extract magnesium from the Dead Sea in Israel. Also their cooperation with ZSNP (an aluminum producer) Inc., in éiar nad Hronom is being considered.
