VOLKSWAGEN Slovakia will focus on the production of off-road models in the future. The company plans to assemble 90,000 VW Touareg cars, up 30,000 units year-on-year, and 40,000 Porsche Cayenne cars this year. Last year it manufactured 281,000 units.
VW Slovakia has been preparing to launch production of another off-road model, the Audi Pikes Peak. The cars have a high added value and their production in the Bratislava plant contributed to the year-on-year growth in the company's foreign trade surplus.
This surged by 121.8 percent to Sk73.2 billion (€1.8 billion) over 2003. The fact that 59 percent of Touareg components come from Slovak suppliers contributed to the better foreign trade figures.
