THE BRATISLAVA plant of the German carmaker Volkswagen will resume round-the-clock production due to continued high demand for its cars, requiring the hiring of about 1,000 workers, Vladimír Machalík, Volkswagen Slovakia spokesman said on June 30.
“Seven-day-a-week production is planned from September 2 until the middle of next year,” he said, as quoted by the ČTK newswire. The company will begin to recruit new workers immediately as they will need to undergo two weeks of training before beginning work.
The Bratislava plant manufactures Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) as well as car bodies for Porsche’s Cayenne model. Because of increased demand, the plant had already begun a three-shift operation at the end of March. The plant currently employs about 6,500 people.
