THE SLOVAK arm of Volkswagen will help its Czech sister company, Škoda, meet the high demand for its Octavia model.
During the first quarter of 2008, Octavia will replace the VW Polo at the Slovak plant. The German carmaker will move Polo production to its plants in Brussels and Pamplona, Spain, Volkswagen Slovakia told The Slovak Spectator.
Škoda is the top-selling car in Slovakia.
The company has not announced how many cars it will produce next year. The switch will not affect employment at the Slovak plant. The plant has a high level of flexibility that allows for smooth changes to production, VW said.
The Volkswagen plant in Devínska Nová Ves specialises in making luxury SUVs. It makes three types of cars for Volkswagen - the Audi Q7, VW Touareg and VW Polo.
