* Individuals, rather than municipalities as under current law, are classed as waste producers, and thus can be fined if they don't adhere to municipal waste management rules.
* A ban is introduced on the import of waste from other companies for the purpose of disposing of it.
* Municipalities may increase the municipal fee to pay for the collection, transport and destruction of communal waste [the current fee is approximately 300 Slovak crowns per person per year, but is expected to be increased to a maximum of 800 crowns].
* The production, import, and use of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is banned as of January 1, 2008.
* A list is provided of 11 types of 'dangerous wastes' - batteries and car batteries, waste oils, old tires, paper, glass, old cars, all types of plastic materials, multi-layered combined materials, ferrous packaging, electronic waste, mercury bulbs.
* Producers and importers of these dangerous wastes will have to contribute regular payments to a Recycling Fund (see story this page).
* Money from the Recycling Fund will be used to improve the collection of separated waste, and to fund firms recycling waste.
