When is it time to outsource IT?

Miroslava Lhotáková, communications manager of IBM Slovensko: With perhaps the exception of the smallest firms, the criteria for outsourcing do not change. However, the size of the company changes the ways of preferred cooperation with external firms. The reason is an increase in the difficulty and complexity of solutions. Smaller firms use more services like renting, financing and serving the products. For medium-sized companies, it is more beneficial to outsource ERP [Enterprise Resource Planning] solutions, and the administration of networks and hardware.

Jozef Kokoška, manager from Accenture: In general, IT outsourcing services can be provided to any enterprise regardless of its size. IT outsourcing does not necessarily mean overall outsourcing of everything related to IT. It can be arranged in the form of partial outsourcing of specific application management, desktop management, network management, etcetera.

I expect to see rapid growth in the Slovak outsourcing market in the future. International companies in Slovakia are currently more open to outsourcing; however, I expect local companies will copy this trend as well. Several international and local IT outsourcing service providers have already been established in Slovakia.
