POLAND and Slovakia will most probably compete again for a key foreign investment. This time the US company Whirlpool, a producer of home appliances, is deciding on an investment worth $200 million (€163 million). However, only unofficial information about the project is available, wrote the daily SME.
Sebastian Mikosz, a representative of the Polish foreign investment agency PAIiIZ, announced the Whirlpool news along with the decision of another firm, Gilette, to produce razors in Poland.
The Warsaw Business Journal compared the competition for the Whirlpool investment to the recent fight for the new Hyundai-Kia plant in which Slovakia eventually beat Poland.
Slovak investment office officials said that they knew of Whirlpool's interest but no talks had begun.
