CONSTRUCTION of wind farms in Slovakia is at a halt. The national transmission network operator, Slovenská Elektrizačná Prenosová Sústava (SEPS) has not been issuing positive opinions which are required to obtain licences for construction of wind power sources from the Economy Ministry, the SITA newswire reported.
SEPS says it will resume awarding opinions after new rules are drawn up.
“We have recommended to all interested entities to keep an eye on our website,” SEPS announced, as quoted by SITA. “It can be assumed that rules for issuance of opinions necessary to obtain licences for construction of wind power sources from Slovakia's Economy Ministry will be released in the near future.”
Investors who are members of the Slovak Wind Power Association (ZVES) plan to build approximately 290 wind power units in Slovakia. The association's chairman, Matej Hlôška, told SITA that the total installed capacity of these wind power turbines is expected to reach 670 megawatts.
However, not all companies interested in building wind turbines in Slovakia are members of the association and there might be even more wind park projects in the pipeline.
