The annual output of Slovakia's wood processing industry in 1998 exceeded 33 billion Slovak crowns ($825 million), bringing its share of Slovakia's industrial production to 6.3%. Annual exports of the industry hit 22 billion crowns, or 8.4% of Slovakia's total exports.
Last year, 275 companies with 20 or more employees were involved in the wood-processing industry. They employed a total of 35,000 persons, representing 7.3% of jobs in industry in Slovakia. In addition to this, about 700 small businesses of up to 20 employees were active.
