DOZENS of employees gathered in front of Senica-based Delphi Slovensko to protest against reported plans to transfer its production to Romania. The producer of cable bundles has already announced it wants to dismiss about 540 people by next June, the SITA newswire reported.
The dismissed employees will be entitled to severance pay worth three to five months’ pay. Yet the trade unions hope the company will agree to a higher sum, equal to either 14 months’ pay, which management paid when shutting down another plant in the Czech Republic, or 24 months’ pay, which was received by employees who were laid off at a British plant.
“If the negotiations are not successful for us, we are prepared to launch coercive actions, including a general strike,” said Emil Machyna, head of the OZ KOVO trade unions, as quoted by SITA.
Meanwhile another big company, Malaysian producer of plastic components, Ryoka Global Europe in Nitra, announced that it will be closing its Slovak plant and dismissing all 227 people working for the firm by the end of November. The firm was the biggest supplier of TV-set producer Foxconn, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote on October 23.
