Industrial sales decreased year-on-year in August for the first time this year (y/y), the Statistics Office reported on October 9.

Compared to August 2007, they fell 0.8 percent to Sk164.1 billion (€5.447 billion) as a result of a 1.3-percent decrease in manufacturing. However, sales of electricity, gas and water increased 4.5 percent, and in mining by 2.3 percent. Over the first eight months of 2008, sales increased 10.2 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. SITA
