Almost Sk9.5 million raised to fight starvation in Haiti

'Fight against Hunger', organised by the Vincent de Paul Association to help the poor in Haiti, collected Sk9.46 million (€314,000) in Slovakia, Margita Šumichrastová from the National Association of Christian Love Societies of St. Vincent de Paul told the TASR newswire on December 18.

The funds have already been sent to Haiti, where civilians are suffering from famine following devastating hurricanes earlier this year.

Haiti, which shares a Caribbean island with the Dominican Republic, was struck by four tropical storms that claimed 800 lives and devastated homes and the harvest.
