Volkswagen has paid the most on taxes in Slovakia

The company considers the award as an appreciation of their effort and success in its core business.

Together with its fellow workers, Volkswagen paid more than €250 million on direct taxes and contributions in 2017, up by 15 percent compared with the previous year. At the same time, the car maker received the Tax Payer of the Year award on November 6.

“We consider the award an appreciation of our effort and success in our core business: the production of quality cars for demanding customers across the globe,” said Ralf Sacht, the chair of the board of directors at Volkswagen Slovakia, as quoted in a press release.

What is the award about?

Volkswagen Slovakia launched its production in 1991 and has produced over five million vehicles since then. Not only is Volkswagen Slovakia, with its 13,700 workers, the biggest private employer in Slovakia, but the company has also invested more than €4 billion since its arrival to Slovakia.

The list of the biggest taxpayers has been compiled by the Trend weekly and consulting company BMB Leitner.

The award takes into account corporation tax, income tax on dependent activity and contributions of employers and employees.
