Slovaks have been able to watch the American streaming service Netflix for three years now.
Yet a recent study shows that Slovaks pay a higher subscription than Canadians, Australians, or even Americans, although they can access about a thousand titles less, a study by market research company Comparitech revealed.
Canadians, as an example, get a basic streaming plan for a price that equals €6.56 ($7.50) and choose from 5,561 selections on Netflix. Slovaks pay 20 percent more monthly at €7.99 ($9.01), for a library size of 4,511 titles within the same plan.
"We thought this study would provide some insight into how Netflix treats its international customers and highlight the ambiguity between cost and title selection," Paul Bischoff, consumer privacy expert for Comparitech, told The Slovak Spectator.
Netflix does not consider Comparitech's study accurate, because the catalogue size is constantly changing. Instead, Netflix suggests the rise in viewing hours a better indicator.
