The employees of the Slovak meteorological office (SHMÚ) are evaluating the potential occurrence of a tornado in the Rimavská Sobota district, southern Slovakia. People reported the alleged phenomenon during the storm on Wednesday, at about 16:00.

“Apparently it occurred outside a populated area. No damage has yet been reported, the assessment of which is the basic method of analysing such cases,” experts posted on Facebook.

They added that without documentation directly from the area, it is impossible to assess the intensity of the phenomenon, the extent of the event and estimate its duration.

However, after analysing a video and radar image from the area, the imeteo.sk website wrote on Wednesday that there was a wind vortex in the area that touched the earth’s surface.

“It is apparently a tornado of the weakest level,” noted the website.

Related: Last week, on May 18, a small tornado was also reported in northern Czechia.
