Luther said he was pleased that the film starts its foreign presentation at the first-class festival like the one in Montreal.

“I assume that ‘A Step into Darkness’ with its specific national topic, but also richness of the story and its adaptation will be attractive also for the non-European viewer,” Luther said, as quoted by TASR.

“A Step into Darkness” is a historical drama, based on a 1956 novel by noted Slovak writer Alfonz Bednár. It is set in the period of early communism and tells a story of a married doctor who plunges into an affair with a political activist. The film was created in co-production with the public-service Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS), with a financial contribution from the Audiovisual Fund.
